RS Pura (Jammu): The JKPCC rally in RS Pura witnessed sharp criticism of the Centre, with Tariq Hameed Karra accusing the Modi government of failing to implement the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023 and ignoring key governance challenges in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing party workers and local residents, Karra said the delay in ensuring 33 percent reservation for women reflects a lack of political will, while raising concerns over the delimitation process and its implications for fair representation.

Karra reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to women empowerment in India, stating that meaningful political participation of women remains central to inclusive governance. He criticised the Centre for what he termed “headline politics,” alleging that major announcements are made without effective implementation on the ground.

The rally also brought attention to pressing local issues, including unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, rising inflation in J&K, and neglect of border development issues. Karra said farmers, youth, refugees, and residents in border and rural areas continue to face hardships without adequate government support. “The voices of local communities are being marginalised, and their concerns are not reaching decision-makers,” he said.

Senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla echoed similar concerns, accusing the Centre of failing to address economic distress and job scarcity in the region. Former ministers Mula Ram and Abdul Majeed Wani also spoke at the rally, highlighting governance gaps and calling for stronger policy measures to support vulnerable sections of society.

Local organiser Ch Gharu Ram said the gathering reflects growing dissatisfaction among people with current policies, particularly in rural and border belts. He stressed the need for a more participatory approach to governance that includes grassroots voices in decision-making.

The Jammu and Kashmir politics landscape, according to Congress leaders, is witnessing increasing public concern over economic challenges and representation issues. The rally served as a platform for the party to outline its vision for inclusive governance, focusing on employment generation, price stability, and equitable development across regions.

Congress leaders said they plan to intensify outreach efforts to mobilise public opinion and highlight what they describe as gaps in the Centre’s approach to governance in Jammu and Kashmir. They reiterated that addressing unemployment, inflation, and women’s representation will remain central to their political agenda in the coming months.

The RS Pura rally underscores the Congress party’s attempt to position itself as a voice for local concerns, while the debate over the Women’s Reservation Bill 2023 and governance priorities continues to shape the political narrative in the region.
