Jammu, April 10: In a significant step toward protecting public assets, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) carried out a large-scale anti-encroachment drive on Thursday, reclaiming approximately 8 kanal of prime land in Jammu.
The coordinated operation, conducted with active support from the District Administration, targeted encroachments at Rathore Dhok (Dhok Waziran) in Nagrota and Sidhra, near key security installations. The drive highlights the administration’s growing focus on land reclamation in Jammu and curbing illegal occupation of government property.
At Rathore Dhok, JDA enforcement teams demolished one unauthorized structure along with several plinths, successfully reclaiming around 3 kanal of land. Simultaneously, at Sidhra, five permanent unauthorized structures were razed, freeing nearly 5 kanal of encroached land.
Officials confirmed that the anti-encroachment drive was executed under the direction of Vice Chairman Rupesh Kumar, with seamless coordination between JDA enforcement operations and the District Administration ensuring smooth execution on the ground.
A JDA spokesperson reiterated the authority’s firm stance against illegal encroachments, emphasizing that such actions are part of an ongoing effort to safeguard public land. “The Jammu Development Authority remains committed to protecting its land from unauthorized occupation. These enforcement drives will continue in the future to ensure that public assets are preserved for planned development and community benefit,” the official said.
The latest action is being seen as part of a broader push to strengthen urban governance and maintain orderly development in the region. With increasing pressure on land resources, authorities have intensified monitoring and enforcement measures to prevent illegal construction.
Residents and observers note that consistent anti-encroachment drives like this not only deter future violations but also reinforce accountability in land use. As JDA continues its crackdown on unauthorized structures, more such operations are expected across Jammu in the coming weeks.
