Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated a new manufacturing unit of Eveready Industries India Limited in Samba district.
The plant has been set up with an investment of ₹200 crore and is expected to generate employment, support ancillary industries, and contribute to the economic development of the Union Territory.
Speaking at the event, Sinha said the industrial growth witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir reflects ongoing development efforts and an improved investment environment. He added that the New Industrial Policy has contributed to increased investments in recent years.
According to official figures shared at the event, the Union Territory recorded investments of ₹5,824 crore in 2025–26, compared to ₹2,153 crore in 2022–23, ₹3,389 crore in 2023–24, and ₹4,145 crore in 2024–25.
The Lieutenant Governor said several industrial units are under development, with production expected to begin in the coming years. He also noted growth in the startup sector, with the number of startups increasing significantly since 2020.
Company officials said the new facility will generate around 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities at full capacity. The plant has an annual production capacity of about 360 million alkaline batteries, with an installed capacity of 456 million units.
Senior officials, including representatives from the Industries and Commerce Department and Eveready Industries, were present at the inauguration.
