Kulgam, May 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked down on an alleged interstate drug trafficking racket in Kulgam district, arresting two suspects, including a woman believed to be linked to the narcotics network, officials said on Thursday.

The case came to light after a police naka checking operation at Churrat near Kund Mode in Qazigund, where officers intercepted a man behaving suspiciously. He was identified as Shakoor Khan, a Delhi native currently residing in the Khanabal Batpora area of South Kashmir.

Upon searching him, police allegedly recovered a heroin-like substance weighing nearly 6.9 grams. A case under the NDPS Act was subsequently registered, and an investigation was launched.

During the probe, investigators reportedly traced the alleged supply chain to a woman identified as Rekha, originally from Delhi’s Bawana locality and presently living in the Sangam area of Kulgam.

Based on intelligence inputs and a court-approved search warrant, police raided her rented residence. Officials claimed the search led to the seizure of around 8.4 grams of suspected heroin, drug-use paraphernalia including syringes and aluminium foil, along with stolen property.

Police said the recovered items were hidden inside a specially constructed underground compartment beneath a bed, suggesting an attempt to conceal illegal materials.

During questioning, the woman allegedly told investigators that she had been supplying narcotics to a large network of users and local peddlers in the region. She also claimed that proceeds from the illegal trade, amounting to nearly Rs 25 lakh, were lost in a fire that destroyed her jhuggi last year.

Investigators further suspect the involvement of other family members in the narcotics operation. Acting on this lead, police conducted another raid in Mir Bazar and detained one of her sons, identified as Sadam.

Officials said the investigation remains underway as authorities work to identify the full network and trace its interstate connections.
