Jammu, April 09: The much-anticipated high-security prison in Jammu and Kashmir has now been formally declared operational, with the Home Department issuing an official notification designating it as a prison.
According to the notification, issued by the Principal Secretary, Home, the government has invoked sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Prisons Act, 1894, to declare the facility as a notified prison.
The notification states that the structures constructed on 148 kanals of land, falling under Khasra Nos. 427 min and 486 min, located in village Dambra of Tehsil Mahanpur in Kathua district, have been officially designated as a prison.
The facility has been named “High Security Prison, Mahanpur,” marking a significant step in strengthening the region’s correctional and security infrastructure.
