Srinagar, April 06 (News Update):
In a major enforcement action to ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations and enhance road safety, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) conducted a comprehensive inspection drive across all districts of the Kashmir Division.

The drive was carried out at multiple high-traffic and accident-prone locations under the supervision of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, with overall monitoring by Transport Commissioner J&K, Vishesh Mahajan. Special enforcement teams were deployed to check violations including driving without valid licenses, overloading, non-use of seat belts and helmets, use of mobile phones while driving, and non-compliance with emission norms.

During the drive, a significant number of vehicles were inspected, resulting in strict enforcement action against violators. As many as 822 challans were issued, 124 vehicles were blacklisted on the spot, and 196 driving licenses were recommended for suspension. Additionally, an amount of ₹18.56 lakh was realized in fines under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials stated that the initiative is aimed at promoting road discipline, instilling a sense of responsibility among motorists, and reducing road accidents across the region.

The department has urged the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and strictly adhere to traffic rules for their own safety and that of others.

Further such drives are scheduled in the coming weeks as part of an ongoing campaign to strengthen road safety across the Kashmir Division.
