ISLAMABAD, Mar 06: Pakistan has expressed concerns over the proposed uranium supply deal between India and Canada, saying the agreement could have implications for regional strategic stability.
According to media reports, Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that any agreement involving nuclear materials must adhere to international safeguards and ensure that such cooperation does not disturb the balance of power in South Asia.
The proposed arrangement is expected to involve the supply of uranium from Canada to support India’s growing nuclear energy sector. Canada is one of the major global producers of uranium and has been expanding civil nuclear cooperation with several countries.
Pakistan emphasized the importance of transparency and strict compliance with global nuclear regulations, particularly those overseen by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Officials also called for responsible nuclear cooperation in the region.
India, which is a signatory to several international nuclear agreements for civilian energy use, has been strengthening partnerships with various countries to meet its increasing energy demands through nuclear power.
Analysts say the development has attracted attention in the region, as nuclear cooperation agreements often carry geopolitical and strategic implications.
