JAMMU: Authorities have announced that internet services will continue to operate on 2G speed, while prepaid mobile call services will remain suspended until further notice in certain areas as part of precautionary measures to maintain public order and security.
According to officials, the decision has been taken keeping in view the prevailing situation and the need to prevent the spread of misinformation through digital platforms. While basic internet access will remain available on 2G speed, restrictions on prepaid mobile calling services will continue until further review by the concerned authorities.
Officials said the move aims to ensure that communication channels remain partially functional for essential services while limiting the possibility of misuse of high-speed internet during sensitive situations.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to cooperate with the authorities and follow official advisories issued from time to time. Meanwhile, postpaid mobile services and essential communication networks are expected to function as per existing arrangements, ensuring that emergency and administrative communication is not disrupted.
The administration has stated that the situation is being closely monitored, and the restrictions will be reviewed periodically based on ground assessments and security considerations.
Authorities further urged the public not to pay attention to rumours circulating on social media and to rely only on verified information from official sources.
Such temporary restrictions are usually implemented during sensitive situations to maintain law and order while allowing limited connectivity for essential communication.
Further updates regarding restoration of normal services are expected once authorities complete their review of the prevailing conditions.
