Srinagar: V K Birdi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess preparedness ahead of Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan’s visit to the Valley.

The Vice-President is scheduled to attend the 21st convocation of the University of Kashmir on February 26.

Senior officials from various security and intelligence agencies participated in the meeting, where comprehensive security plans for the VVIP visit were presented and reviewed, a police spokesperson said.

During the meeting, Birdi stressed the importance of heightened vigilance to counter any potential terror threats. He directed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering, tighten security at vulnerable locations, and ensure effective area domination, including intensified night patrols.

Special focus was placed on securing critical infrastructure and safeguarding vital installations. The strategic deployment of Counter-Insurgency and Quick Reaction Teams (CI/QRTs) was also discussed to ensure swift and coordinated responses to any emerging situation.

The IGP further instructed officials to enhance round-the-clock patrolling in both urban and rural areas and reinforce surveillance at key entry and exit points to ensure a safe and smooth visit.
