New Delhi, Feb 8: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced a significant change in the Civil Services Examination rules, impacting serving officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

Under the revised guidelines, officers who have already been appointed to these services will no longer be permitted to reappear for the Civil Services Examination unless they formally resign from their current position. The move is aimed at streamlining the recruitment process, minimising prolonged vacancies, and ensuring equitable opportunities for new aspirants.

According to the updated provisions, candidates who qualify for the preliminary or main examination but are appointed to the IAS or IFS before the declaration of the final results will also become ineligible to continue in the examination process unless they resign from service.

The change has generated mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a necessary reform to improve administrative efficiency, while others argue that it may limit career mobility within the civil services. Detailed guidelines and further information are available on the official UPSC website.
