Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir has filed a charge-sheet against Mubarak Ahmad Ganai, former Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of PWD (R&B) Division Sopore, in connection with a Jammu Kashmir ACB bribery case involving alleged corruption in bill clearance.

According to officials, the accused had allegedly demanded and accepted illegal gratification from a contractor by withholding a pending payment of Rs 28.27 lakh related to construction work at Government Degree College Sopore. The bribe amount was reportedly fixed at 2 percent of the total bill, following which the ACB conducted a trap operation.

Ganai was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 in the presence of independent witnesses, officials said. A case was subsequently registered under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act after a preliminary verification by the bureau confirmed the allegations.

After completing the anti-corruption investigation in Jammu, and securing prosecution sanction from the competent authority, the ACB filed the charge-sheet before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Baramulla.

An ACB official said, “The bureau is committed to taking strict legal action in cases of corruption and ensuring accountability in public offices.” Another official added that such actions reflect a zero-tolerance approach towards PWD Sopore corruption and similar offences.

The case will now proceed in court, with the next hearing scheduled for June 6, 2026.
