The Indian Army successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Uri sector, killing one Pakistani terrorist during a joint counter-infiltration operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to officials, the Indian Army operation took place during the intervening night of March 14–15, 2026, after security forces received specific intelligence inputs from Jammu and Kashmir Police about a possible infiltration attempt in the border area.
Based on the information, troops were deployed in the general area of Buchhar in the Uri sector, which lies close to the Line of Control and is considered vulnerable to cross-border infiltration attempts. During surveillance, soldiers detected suspicious movement near the LoC and immediately adjusted their ambush positions to intercept the suspected infiltrator.
When challenged by the troops, the infiltrator reportedly opened fire, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire. In the encounter that followed, security forces neutralized one Pakistani terrorist, successfully preventing the infiltration attempt.
Following the operation, security forces recovered warlike stores, including an AK-series rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition from the site, indicating that the infiltrator was heavily armed.
Officials said the incident highlights the continued attempts by militants to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir from across the Line of Control. Security forces maintain a robust anti-infiltration grid along the LoC to detect and stop such attempts.
At the time of the last report, the search operation in the Uri sector was still ongoing to ensure that no additional infiltrators were present in the area.
