SRINAGAR, Mar 02: The Divisional Administration Kashmir on Sunday acknowledged the role played by various communities in maintaining peace and upholding law and order across the Valley amid recent developments in the Middle East.
In an official statement, the administration urged citizens to exercise restraint and strictly adhere to advisories issued by the local authorities. “Citizens are advised to remain calm and share only verified information on digital platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation,” the statement read.
For any assistance, the administration informed that a round-the-clock helpline has been made operational at Srinagar (0194-2740003).
Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone Police also issued an advisory, stating that while the right to peaceful expression through lawful means is respected, incidents of violence would not be tolerated.
“In view of the recent developments in the Middle East, we respect the right of citizens to express themselves peacefully and within the ambit of law. However, incidents of rioting and stone-pelting reported at some places are not acceptable,” the statement said.
Police warned that violence, destruction of public and private property, and confrontations with security forces result in injuries, loss of life, restrictions, closure of educational institutions and hardships for families, traders, students and daily wage earners.
Appealing to all sections of society to maintain calm, the police urged people to refrain from provocation and unlawful activities. It added that strict legal action would be taken against instigators and miscreants involved in any form of violence or disturbance.
