Hubballi, Feb. 28: Jammu and Kashmir created history on Saturday, lifting their maiden Ranji Trophy title after the final against Karnataka ended in a draw — with J&K sealing the championship on the strength of a commanding first-innings lead.
On a dramatic final day in Hubballi, Jammu and Kashmir resumed their second innings at 186 for four, already firmly in control of the contest. What followed was a display of patience and authority from Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra, who turned the game into a celebration of resilience and belief.
Iqbal, unbeaten on 94 overnight, showed remarkable composure to bring up a memorable century, while Lotra, who had resumed on 16, grew in confidence as the innings progressed. The duo stitched together an unbroken partnership that completely shut the door on Karnataka’s hopes.
By the time both captains agreed to shake hands, Iqbal was unbeaten on a magnificent 160, while Lotra stood firm on 101. Jammu and Kashmir had reached 342 for four, stretching their overall lead to a massive 633 runs.
With no realistic chance of a result beyond a draw, the first-innings advantage proved decisive — handing Jammu and Kashmir their first Ranji Trophy crown.
As the players embraced on the field, it marked not just a title win but a defining moment in the region’s cricketing journey — one that will be remembered as a breakthrough achievement for generations to come.
