JAMMU, Feb 20: A three-day training programme on “Cyber Investigation and Mobile Forensics” began today at the Conference Hall of District Police Lines (DPL), Jammu, aimed at strengthening the cybercrime response capabilities of police officers across the Jammu Zone.
The programme was inaugurated by Bhim Sen Tuti, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, in the presence of Shamsheer Hussain, Staff Officer to IGP Jammu. Officers from various districts of the Jammu Zone are participating in the course.
Addressing the participants, the IGP highlighted the growing complexity of cyber-enabled crimes and stressed the urgent need for investigators to stay updated with evolving technologies and legal frameworks. He underlined the importance of equipping officers with advanced technical skills and sound legal knowledge to effectively collect, preserve, and present digital evidence in courts to ensure successful prosecution.
Over the next three days, the programme will focus on key aspects of cyber investigations, including proper handling and preservation of digital evidence, maintaining the chain of custody, and adhering to established legal and procedural safeguards. Special emphasis will be placed on drafting digital seizure memos and conducting lawful digital seizures that can withstand judicial scrutiny.
Dedicated sessions will also examine the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023, particularly those concerning the admissibility and evidentiary value of electronic records.
The training will cover both legal and procedural dimensions of cybercrime investigations, with expert speakers and experienced cyber investigators conducting technical sessions, case study discussions, and practical demonstrations. The interactive format is designed to ensure effective learning and real-world application.
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance cyber policing capabilities in the region and build institutional capacity to tackle emerging digital threats in a professional, efficient, and legally robust manner.
