JAMMU, Feb 20: Jammu & Kashmir has received a significant boost in advanced medical education after the National Medical Commission (NMC) cleared new and additional seats in several DM and MCh super-specialty courses for the 2025–26 academic session.

The approval will allow more doctors from the Union Territory to pursue higher specialization within J&K itself, reducing the need to depend on institutions outside the region and strengthening local tertiary healthcare services.

At Government Medical College Jammu, four seats each have been sanctioned for DM Cardiology and MCh Urology. Meanwhile, Government Medical College Srinagar has received approval for two seats each in DM Pulmonary Medicine, DM Cardiology, DM Medical Gastroenterology, MCh Paediatric Surgery, and MCh Urology.

The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has also expanded its super-specialty training capacity with two seats each in DM Neuro-Anaesthesia, DM Paediatric and Neonatal Anaesthesia, and DM Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.

Overall, close to 30 super-specialty seats have been approved across the three premier government medical institutions in Jammu & Kashmir. The move is expected to improve access to specialized healthcare in the region while creating more opportunities for aspiring super-specialist doctors.
