JAMMU, Feb 15: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Science and Technology, ARI and Trainings, Satish Sharma, held a meeting with R K Mishra, Chief of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), to review border infrastructure development and discuss key developmental priorities in border areas, with particular focus on the Chamb constituency.

The meeting focused on strengthening infrastructure and improving connectivity in strategically important border regions to accelerate socio-economic growth and enhance public service delivery.

The Minister underscored the need for sustained and coordinated efforts to ensure the timely execution of road construction, upgradation and maintenance works in remote and sensitive areas. Highlighting the strategic and developmental significance of border constituencies, he stated that robust road infrastructure is vital not only for mobility but also for improving access to essential services such as healthcare, education, emergency response and the supply of essential commodities.

He emphasized that improved connectivity is fundamental to empowering local communities, generating economic opportunities and strengthening overall regional resilience.

Detailed deliberations were held on the status of ongoing projects, identification of priority stretches requiring immediate attention and the formulation of a time-bound roadmap for upcoming infrastructure initiatives. The Minister stressed the importance of adopting modern engineering practices, maintaining quality standards and expediting project timelines to ensure early and tangible benefits for the public.

During the meeting, the BRO Chief briefed the Minister on the progress of infrastructure works currently underway in the region and outlined future plans aimed at further strengthening connectivity and enhancing the durability of road networks in border areas. He reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting developmental initiatives and assured full cooperation in fast-tracking priority projects.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development, the Minister said that special emphasis will continue to be placed on border constituencies to bridge infrastructure gaps and improve the quality of life for residents living in far-flung areas. He added that coordinated institutional efforts and regular monitoring would remain key to ensuring effective and timely implementation of development initiatives.
