Baramulla, April 09: In a major crackdown on land fraud, police in Baramulla foiled a well-orchestrated scam in Kunzer by arresting seven individuals who allegedly posed as land brokers and government officials to cheat an unsuspecting buyer.

According to officials, the accused had fabricated false ownership documents for a parcel of land and projected one of their associates as the legitimate owner in an attempt to mislead the complainant.

However, timely verification by the police exposed the operation as a pre-planned conspiracy aimed at defrauding the victim.

Acting swiftly, police apprehended all seven accused at a crucial stage, thereby preventing further financial loss.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the complainant had already paid ₹4,00,000 in cash and ₹10,000 through bank transfer, and was being pressured to arrange an additional ₹20,00,000.

During the operation, police recovered and seized forged revenue documents related to 13.5 kanals of land located at Wussan Bangil, falling under Khasra Nos. 271, 272, 273, and 274.

In this connection, FIR No. 42/2026 has been registered at Police Station Kunzer under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway to identify additional accomplices and unravel the full extent of the fraud network.
