Jammu, April 06 (News Update):
In a bid to enforce strict compliance with the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act and ensure adherence to prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), a comprehensive inspection drive was conducted across Sub Division Akhnoor.
The drive was led by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mukhter Ahmed and included Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Virender Gupta along with the Drug Inspector. During the inspection, multiple medical establishments were checked to verify the maintenance of proper records, functional CCTV surveillance systems, and the implementation of mandatory computerized billing systems.
While several chemist shops were found to be in full compliance—maintaining proper documentation, operational CCTV systems, and satisfactory billing mechanisms—strict action was taken against those violating the norms.
Taking a firm stance on non-compliance, the authorities ordered the immediate closure of M/s Vikram Medicos under Section 22(d) of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act for failing to maintain computerized billing records, and have recommended suspension of its license. A Show Cause Notice was also issued to M/s S.S. Medicos for failing to produce sales invoices during the inspection. Additionally, departmental proceedings have been initiated against M/s Sodhi Medicate for similar violations.
Reaffirming a zero-tolerance approach towards violations in the medical trade, SDM Mukhter Ahmed directed all chemists to ensure deployment of qualified personnel, strict record-keeping, and functional billing systems.
He emphasized that such surprise inspection drives will continue in the future to ensure transparency and accountability in the sale of medicines.
“Stringent action will be taken against violators to safeguard public health and maintain transparency,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the local administration has issued an advisory urging the public to purchase medicines only from licensed chemists and to insist on proper computerized bills for every transaction.
