JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested Mohd Saleem Bandey, Girdawar of Halqa Judda in Tehsil Arnas, District Reasi, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant.

A case (FIR No. 04/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur.

According to an ACB spokesperson, the accused public servant had demanded illegal gratification in exchange for carrying out the demarcation of the complainant’s ancestral land—an official duty he was legally obligated to perform without any monetary consideration.

“Acting on a written complaint, the Bureau conducted a discreet verification, which substantiated the allegations of bribe demand. Subsequently, a formal case was registered and an investigation was initiated,” the spokesperson said.

During the course of the investigation, a specialized trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police was constituted. The team successfully laid a trap and apprehended the accused red-handed while he was demanding and accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe amount was recovered from his possession on the spot, following which he was arrested in accordance with due legal procedure.

The spokesperson further informed that a search of the accused’s residential premises at Sallian Talab, Udhampur, was conducted in the presence of a Magistrate, as mandated under law.

Notably, two FIRs had previously been registered against the accused at Police Station ACB Udhampur. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
