Jammu, Feb 25: In a significant push to strengthen tertiary healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM) J&K, Akriti Sagar (IAS), on Tuesday conducted an on-site inspection of the upcoming Critical Care Block being constructed under the PM-ABHIM scheme at the Chest Disease Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.

The Critical Care Block is being developed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), a flagship initiative aimed at bolstering public health systems and emergency preparedness across the country.

During the visit, the Mission Director undertook a comprehensive review of the construction progress, assessing the pace of work, infrastructure standards, and adherence to prescribed timelines. She interacted with engineers and executing agencies, directing them to ensure quality benchmarks and timely completion of the project.

Officials briefed her on the current status of civil works, availability of technical manpower, and the projected commissioning schedule. Stressing the importance of advanced critical care facilities, Akriti Sagar emphasized that the block would significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to manage severe respiratory and emergency cases, especially in view of evolving public health challenges.

The inspection forms part of the administration’s ongoing monitoring mechanism to accelerate healthcare infrastructure projects across Jammu and Kashmir. Once operational, the Critical Care Block is expected to provide state-of-the-art intensive care services, strengthening tertiary-level treatment facilities in the Jammu region.

Senior health officials and representatives of the executing agency were present during the inspection.
