New Delhi, April 10: In a significant push towards Jammu and Kashmir youth empowerment, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday addressed a 250-member youth delegation from Jammu and Kashmir during the Watan Ko Jano programme in the national capital.
The programme, aimed at strengthening national integration initiatives, provided young participants an opportunity to engage with India’s socio-cultural diversity and witness the country’s developmental progress firsthand.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President highlighted the remarkable strides made in Jammu and Kashmir education progress and women’s empowerment. He noted that women from the region are increasingly taking leadership roles in education and achieving success in sports and other fields.
Referring to recent sporting achievements, he praised the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for its historic Ranji Trophy success, calling it a testament to the talent and determination of the region’s youth.
Radhakrishnan also emphasized the vast potential of Jammu and Kashmir as a global tourist destination. He pointed to its natural beauty and cultural heritage, along with expanding opportunities in tourism, technology, education, and entrepreneurship, as key drivers of future growth.
Encouraging the youth to stay connected to their roots, he urged them to play an active role in promoting peace, prosperity, and harmony. “The young generation must contribute positively to society while carrying forward the rich cultural identity of the region,” he said.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, in his address, reiterated the Centre’s strong commitment to Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s personal involvement during critical times, including his visit to the Kashmir Valley during the devastating floods.
Singh noted a steady rise in the participation of Jammu and Kashmir youth in prestigious institutions such as IITs, IIMs, Civil Services, and the corporate sector, reflecting growing access to opportunities and improved outcomes in education.
He stressed that initiatives like the Watan Ko Jano programme are instrumental in nurturing India youth leadership and bridging gaps between regions. “Young people must seize the opportunities available, remain focused, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development,” he said.
