Udhampur, February 26: In a significant crackdown on bovine smuggling in Jammu and Kashmir, Udhampur Police on Thursday attached a vehicle valued at ₹40 lakh belonging to a habitual cattle smuggler.
The कार्रवाई was executed under Section 107(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), in compliance with orders issued by the Court of the District Mobile Magistrate, Udhampur. Officials confirmed that the vehicle had been repeatedly used for the illegal transportation of bovines and was linked to several registered criminal cases.
According to police sources, the vehicle was involved in offences registered at Police Station Rehambal under Sections 223 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act).
Police officials stated that the attachment of the high-value vehicle forms part of an intensified campaign to dismantle organized bovine smuggling networks operating in and around Udhampur district. Authorities reiterated their commitment to strict legal enforcement and warned that assets used in criminal activities will continue to face attachment under relevant provisions of the law.
The latest action sends a strong message to individuals involved in illegal cattle trade, as law enforcement agencies tighten their grip on smuggling operations across the region.
