Srinagar, April 10: In a significant move aimed at strengthening Kashmir employment support, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday distributed appointment orders to 90 beneficiaries under SRO-43 and the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme (RAS) at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).
The appointments, granted on compassionate grounds, are intended to provide relief to families who have lost their primary breadwinners, reflecting the government’s continued focus on humanitarian support through Kashmir government appointments.
Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah acknowledged the emotional weight behind such moments, emphasizing that these appointments come in the wake of personal tragedy. “While no job can replace the loss of a loved one, we want you to know that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with you in your time of need,” he said, underlining the symbolic and practical importance of these compassionate appointments.
The Chief Minister highlighted the transition from the earlier SRO-43 framework to the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme, noting that the shift is designed to address longstanding delays and inefficiencies. He stressed that the new system aims to simplify procedures and ensure that eligible families receive timely assistance without facing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
“Our effort is to remove bottlenecks and make the process more transparent and efficient, so that families do not have to endure additional hardship while seeking support,” he added. The remarks reflect a broader push by the administration to reform welfare delivery systems and improve access to benefits under schemes like SRO-43 and RAS.
Omar Abdullah also offered words of guidance to the newly appointed individuals, urging them to carry out their duties with honesty and dedication. He advised them to serve the public with integrity and remain vigilant against undue external influences that could compromise their responsibilities. “You are now part of the system—your role is not just employment, but service to society,” he noted.
The event was attended by senior government officials, local ministers, and administrative officers, signaling the importance of the initiative within the broader governance framework of Jammu and Kashmir.
Observers see the move as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen compassionate appointment policies and ensure that affected families receive both emotional and financial support. The administration has also indicated its intent to expedite pending cases under both SRO-43 and the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme, with a renewed focus on efficiency and accountability.
Looking ahead, the government expressed hope that streamlined processes and continued reforms will lead to quicker disposal of applications and more effective delivery of benefits. The initiative reinforces the administration’s commitment to standing by vulnerable families and ensuring that employment support mechanisms remain responsive, humane, and accessible across Kashmir.
