Katra, Jammu & Kashmir: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Shankaracharya Temple in Katra, marking a significant step toward strengthening the region’s spiritual and religious tourism landscape.
Katra, known as the base camp for the revered Vaishno Devi Temple, witnessed the ceremonial inauguration attended by local leaders, religious scholars, and devotees.
The proposed temple is inspired by the historic Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar and aims to enhance the spiritual experience for pilgrims visiting the region.
Speaking at the event, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. He stated that the new temple will further establish Katra as a prominent pilgrimage destination and contribute to the growth of religious tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials informed that the temple will be constructed in phases, incorporating traditional architectural design while ensuring modern facilities for visitors.
The project is expected to not only strengthen the region’s spiritual significance but also provide a boost to the local economy through increased tourism.
