Jammu, Feb 9: The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the Legislative Assembly that there is currently no proposal under consideration to regularise MGNREGA support staff, stating that nearly 3,800 personnel across the Union Territory are engaged on a purely temporary and contractual basis.

The information was provided by the Minister in charge of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in a written reply to a query raised by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz. The government clarified that the engagement of support staff under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is governed by existing guidelines, under which such positions are contractual in nature.
