Jammu, Mar 12: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday reviewed the petroleum supply in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure adequate availability of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG across the Union Territory in view of the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
The high-level meeting was chaired by Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, IT, Youth Services and Sports. The review focused on assessing current stock levels, monitoring supply chains and preparing contingency plans to avoid any disruption in fuel distribution.
Senior officials, legislators and representatives from major oil marketing companies—including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited—attended the meeting and provided updates on the availability of petroleum products across districts.
Officials informed the minister that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG stock are currently available across Jammu and Kashmir, and supply lines remain stable. However, the administration is closely monitoring the Middle East situation impact on global energy markets and taking precautionary steps to ensure uninterrupted availability.
During the meeting, Sharma stressed the importance of maintaining sufficient buffer stocks and strengthening coordination with oil companies to ensure smooth and timely supply across the Union Territory. He directed officials to remain vigilant and keep contingency plans ready to address any potential supply disruptions.
The minister also reviewed measures being taken to prevent hoarding, black marketing and overcharging at petrol pumps and LPG distribution outlets. Enforcement agencies have been directed to intensify inspections across the region.
Teams from the Legal Metrology Department Jammu and Kashmir and other enforcement bodies will conduct regular checks to ensure accurate measurement, proper pricing and compliance with regulations. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found indulging in illegal practices.
Officials said these government measures against fuel shortages are aimed at protecting consumers and maintaining transparency in fuel distribution.
The government also appealed to the public not to panic or engage in unnecessary bulk purchases of fuel, assuring that fuel availability in Jammu and Kashmir remains adequate.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to uninterrupted supply, Sharma said the administration is closely coordinating with oil companies and monitoring the situation on a daily basis to ensure people do not face any inconvenience.
The review comes as authorities across the country are keeping a close watch on global developments that could affect petroleum supply chains. In Jammu and Kashmir, officials said the administration will continue to monitor stock levels and take timely steps to ensure stable fuel supply across the Union Territory.
