JAMMU: The South Zone of Jammu Police has recovered stolen and missing property worth nearly ₹90 lakh during the first 57 days of 2026, officials said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, SP South City Dr. Ajay Sharma said the recoveries were made under three focused operations — Operation RECONNECT, Operation AVTAR and Operation Meghdoot — aimed at curbing theft and property-related crimes in Jammu city.

Under Operation RECONNECT, police recovered 196 missing mobile phones worth approximately ₹68 lakh. Of these, 36 mobile phones had already been returned to their owners, while 160 devices were handed over to their rightful claimants after completion of legal formalities during the press conference.

The recovery was made by a small team of the Emergency Support Unit (ESU) operating from the Office of SP South Jammu. The team worked on missing reports lodged across Jammu and carried out sustained technical analysis and tracking, including inter-state coordination. The team was led by Selection Grade Constable Rishi Abrol.

In another breakthrough under Operation AVTAR, Police Station Gandhi Nagar solved a motorcycle theft case registered under FIR No. 34/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was filed on the complaint of Sgct. Viney Kumar regarding the theft of his Hero Splendor motorcycle.

A police team led by Inspector Jaipal Sharma, PSI Nadeem Akram and ASI Pintoo Kumar conducted technical analysis and examined CCTV footage from JMC Smart City surveillance, leading to the arrest of two accused — Mansa Chowdhary and Abdul Rehman.

During investigation, police recovered 15 more stolen two-wheelers, mainly Hero Splendor motorcycles, along with one Pulsar RS200 and one Scooty Pleasure. The total recovery under this operation includes 16 two-wheelers worth around ₹12 lakh.

Meanwhile, under Operation Meghdoot, Police Station Gandhi Nagar solved a major salon theft case with the arrest of one accused. Stolen salon equipment worth about ₹10 lakh was recovered in the case.

SP South City said the sustained operations reflect the department’s commitment to tackling theft cases through technical surveillance, data analysis and coordinated policing efforts. He added that strict action will continue against those involved in property-related crimes across Jammu city.
