Srinagar, Feb 26: In a celebration of art, youth talent and Kashmir’s rich garden heritage, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday honoured the winners of a Photography and Reel Competition organised to mark the inauguration of the Chrysanthemum Garden in Srinagar.

The event, hosted by the Department of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks, drew wide participation from aspiring and professional photographers who showcased the garden’s vibrant blooms and scenic landscapes through compelling visuals and short digital reels.

Presenting Certificates of Merit and cash awards, the Chief Minister congratulated the winners and lauded their creativity. The first prize in each category carried a cash award of Rs 20,000, followed by Rs 10,000 for second place and Rs 5,000 for third.

Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah underscored the cultural and emotional significance of Kashmir’s historic gardens.

“Kashmir’s gardens are not just spaces of natural beauty; they reflect our shared heritage, artistic sensibilities and cultural pride. The way our youth have captured the essence of this garden through photography and reels is truly commendable,” he said.

He observed that such initiatives go beyond competition, serving as platforms for constructive youth engagement and creative dialogue. Encouraging artistic engagement with public spaces, he noted, fosters environmental awareness and strengthens community connections.

“When young people channel their talent to celebrate nature, they emerge as ambassadors of Kashmir’s identity and values. We must continue to create avenues that nurture innovation and cultural expression,” he added.

The competition highlighted the growing trend of digital storytelling and nature-focused content creation among the Valley’s youth. Participants used visual narratives to present the Chrysanthemum Garden not only as a floral attraction but as a symbol of Srinagar’s enduring legacy as the ‘City of Gardens.’

Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Director of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks Kashmir, and senior departmental officials were present on the occasion.
