New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he crossed 8,931 days in public office, becoming the longest-serving Indian head of government. The milestone surpasses the record previously held by Pawan Kumar Chamling.
In his remarks, Shah described Modi’s political journey as one defined by “Seva” (service), integrity, and a nation-first approach, calling the achievement a reflection of sustained commitment rather than mere longevity.
Modi’s public service career in executive office began on October 7, 2001, when he was sworn in as Chief Minister of Gujarat. He went on to serve three consecutive terms in the state, before leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a decisive victory in the 2014 general elections. He took oath as Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, and has since secured two further mandates, completing three consecutive terms at the Centre.
Shah also highlighted Modi’s work ethic, noting that he has not taken a holiday from official duties in more than two decades. According to him, this consistency has contributed to the Prime Minister’s public image as a leader focused on governance and delivery.
Political observers say the Narendra Modi public service record reflects both electoral success and continuity in leadership. Winning three consecutive terms as Gujarat chief minister and three as prime minister is seen as a rare achievement in Indian politics, pointing to sustained voter support across regions and election cycles.
